What's in a name? A name can convey strength, power, prestige. It can also be a source of embarrassment and ridicule.
A conversation the other day that included mention of the Iron Duke (ow!) got me thinking about this.
So Oppo, let's hear it. Which engine (or family of engines) has the best (or worst) name?

I thought the Northstar had a cool name, but then turned out to be nightmarish. Still, we're talking about names.
But I'm going with my fave: 351 Cleveland. It just sounds better than Windsor. And smells better too.

I've always loved the way that name rolls off the tongue.

Great name for a pretty good engine family that GM didn't give much of a chance: Atlas.
I'm not a huge fan of the Japanese engine naming convention although some convey everything about the engine in question:
CA18DET
F20C1
etc...
Earth Dreams is just silly

I am a fan of Ford's 5.0L coyote engine. It has all the grunt you want and a sinister growl.

Hear, hear! I love my Atlas ('04 Envoy) and its name!

S70/2? What kind of name is that for the most awesome V12 to ever come out of Europe? 'S70' is good enough for a blender or a video card, but not this. It needs a name more befitting of it's awesomeness.
Python Cobra Rocket Blaster. That's what I'm calling it from now on.

I love the Japanese naming structure. It's much more technical and less marketing-ish than the way that domestic manufacturers name engines. (This coming from a marketing professional lol)

I think I'd call it Wall-E

Dammit, I was going to say Earth Dreams. Who dreams of a Honda economy car?

You *dare* blaspheme against Python Cobra Rocket Blaster?! By all that is sacred and holy, you shall be struck down and deserted by the side of the road with a broken engine!

Ah, yes. The 440 version of the B engine. The Dodge version was clearly named after the Remington Magnum cartridge (.44).
Chrysler and Plymouth also had awesome names for this engine. Plymouth had the Super Commando, Chrysler had the TNT.

They also used the name on an I4, V6, and a V8 until very recently.

Coventry Climax. A sexy name for a sexy engine.

Yep. And, the Magnum V8 from the Ram trucks + two cylinders formed the basis for both the Viper V10 and the Magnum V10.

That Nissan turbo I6, whatchamacallit. R2D2jujitsu or somthing.
Disclaimer: I have nothing against this engine, it just has a goofy name.

I still think EcoBoost is a dumb name - they initially used TwinForce during the development of the V6 version, which still sounds much better.
One of the best would Buick's Fireball V6, which evolved into the much more generic sounding 3800.
